When a door opens, we close it.
Latch is a small team building software that hands privacy back to the person using it, with no network, no database, and no dashboard quietly watching you by default.
Surveillance kept getting installed around us with no vote and no opt-out, so we built one.
Most apps and devices quietly collect more than they need to work, including your location, usage, and behavior, logged in the background.
That data rarely stays put. It gets bought, sold, and passed between data brokers most people have never heard of.
None of it looks dangerous alone, but combined it can identify, track, or predict a person with real accuracy. It already does.
About us
A small team, a shared irritation.
We're a handful of engineers and privacy people who got tired of scrolling past another headline about a new tracking system nobody voted on.
This isn't a protest march. It's a few of us who got tired of complaining and started building instead.
A few of us kept trading links about how fast automated surveillance was spreading, not just in big cities but in ordinary towns too. We started asking why the defensive tools hadn't kept pace.
Latch became official: a name, a mark, and a working list of tools we wished already existed. The first lines of code were written from someone's home office.
Still small. Still independent. Still building the tools we wanted in the first place, for anyone who wants them too.
The mission
Protest, written in code.
It's not just cameras. Telemetry runs quietly in the background, data changes hands between companies you've never heard of, and all of it gets stitched together into something far more revealing than any single piece on its own.
We build shields, not swords. Everything we make keeps what's yours from leaving without asking, and stops there.
How open we are
Everything we build is meant to be checked, not just trusted. Source goes up as we finish it, and we don't collect anything from you that isn't explained on this page. If we ever fall short of that, tell us. That's the whole point of staying small.
Defense, not disruption
Protects what's yours. Doesn't touch what isn't.
Open by default
If we can't show you how something works, we don't expect you to trust it.
Small on purpose
We're not chasing a buyout. Staying small means staying accountable to the people using this.
Opt-out should be easy
Privacy shouldn't require a computer science degree. Every tool gets judged on that basis.

- Open an issue first for anything bigger than a small fix
- Tests required for anything touching crypto or data handling
- Small, readable PRs beat sprawling ones every time
What we won't merge
- Closed-source dependencies bundled into anything we ship
- Any feature whose job is reading data instead of protecting it
- Telemetry or analytics of any kind, "anonymous" or not
- Code nobody on the team can explain line by line
